ROUTLEDGE AUTHOR
SENIOR SCHOOL LEADER
EXPERIENCED EXAMINER
Thirty years in classrooms and school leadership have given me a clear sense of what education actually looks like from the inside — and what it takes to change it.
I began my career as an English teacher and spent three decades working across every level from Key Stage 2 to A-Level, taking on senior leadership roles including Head of English and Director of Digital Learning. I have taught in and worked with schools across the UK, mentored students to Oxbridge and leading universities, and advised schools on digital transformation long before AI entered mainstream conversation.
That practitioner background shapes everything I do now. When I work with schools on AI strategy, I am not arriving as an outside consultant with a generic framework — I am drawing on thirty years of understanding how teachers actually work, what school leaders are genuinely accountable for, and what kinds of change are realistic within the pressures of a working school.
My book Teach English with AI, published by Routledge in April 2026, is a practical guide for English teachers navigating artificial intelligence in the classroom. It reflects the same approach: grounded in what works, honest about the challenges, and focused on preserving the human elements that make great teaching irreplaceable.
Alongside consultancy work with schools, I write regularly on Substack about AI and education, tutor students in English and Drama from 11+ through to A-Level and Oxbridge preparation, and provide strategic counsel to EdTech organisations at board level.
